Healthcare Specialist students earn a variety of specialized certificates and become employable in a year or less, before earning an associate degree. Certificates prepare graduates for work in Dementia Care, Phlebotomy, Certified Nursing Aide (CNA), Electrocardiography (EKG), Qualified Medication Aide (QMA) and more. The Healthcare Specialist program is also where students who plan to apply for one of the limited enrollment healthcare programs get started.

Graduates from the Health Information Technology program are able to work in a variety of areas in healthcare. Our graduates are working in hospitals, physicians' offices, clinics, public health facilities, government offices, electronic health record vendors, as well as alternative healthcare facilities.

The Medical Assisting program is a hands-on program that prepares students to sit for the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) exam that many employers are now requiring. Classes focus on patient care, vital signs, injections, medical and insurance coding, and charting. Medical Assisting graduates are in high-demand and work in hospitals and medical offices.

Next Level Jobs Medical Assisting - Technical Certificate

Nursing (ASN, RN) and Practical Nursing (LPN) are in-demand programs that equip graduates with the skills to care for patients through classwork, lab simulations, and clinical, hands-on practice. Students may take select required general education courses online.

Next Level Jobs Practical Nursing - Technical Certificate

In just one course, student gain the knowledge and skills to prepare them to sit for the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification exams. Once certified, individuals are qualified to work on ambulances, in hospitals, and in a wide variety of emergency medical settings. The EMT certification also helps prepare individuals to continue on the  more advance Paramedic training for which they can earn an associates degree.

Next Level Jobs Basic Emergency Medical Studies (EMT) - Certificate

Patient Care Technician students have the opportunity to learn real-world, hands-on skills to become a valued, multi-skilled healthcare team member. As a patient care technician you will assist patients with day-to-day activities, maintain safe patient environments of care, and assemble equipment/supplies in preparation for various diagnostic or treatment procedures by physicians and nurses. Patient care technicians are employed in settings including hospitals, continuing care communities, rehabilitation units, and dialysis centers.  Ivy Tech Fort Wayne offers a CT in Patient Care Technician.

Respiratory Therapists provide treatment and care for patients with breathing and lung disorders. They work alongside physicians, nurses, and other health care providers. Graduates of this associate degree program sit for the national board exam to become qualified to work in hospitals, home care, and rehabilitation centers as respiratory therapists. 

The Surgical Technology program is a very demanding but rewarding program within Health Sciences. With our high quality of training, you will be prepared to enter the workforce in the operating room, labor and delivery department, or central sterile supply as a Surgical Technologist. 

Ivy Tech Fort Wayne offers a COMTA accredited program where graduates are eligible to sit for the state licensing exam that qualifies them for employment as massage therapists. Students receive holistic training and participate in the student-run massage clinic. Graduates of the Therapeutic Massage program work in spas, wellness clinics, and other healthcare facilities.
