The School of Public Affairs & Social Services at the South Bend-Elkhart campus offers degrees in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Homeland Security, Paramedic Science, Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, and Hospitality. 

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Criminal Justice program gives students the opportunity to work and learn from professionals and scholars in the field to prepare for careers or transfer to a four year institution. Fields include Private and Business Security, Law Enforcement, Investigation, Court Services, Corrections, Probation, and Parole at the local, state, and federal level.

  • Careers in emergency preparedness and response and environmental health and safety are in demand and are an important part to the well-being of our community.

  • The South Bend-Elkhart Hospitality program has earned the exemplary designation from its accreditor, The American Culinary Federation. The Hospitality program offers student the chance to receive training in facilities that mirror the professional industry. Our students develop food preparation skills that provide a solid foundation for chefs, line cooks, caterers, bakers, and restaurateurs.

  • Throughout the Human Services program, students examine their values and attitudes which reflect in their interactions with others. All students are trained in ethical and theoretical principles, practical skills, and experience the profession. In addition to general skills, specialty training allows a student to explore working with a population such as youth, the elderly, those with intellectual disability or those struggling with addiction.

  • Students in the Legal Studies program will learn about government structures, sources of law, legal research and writing, civil procedure and litigation, and legal ethics. As a transfer degree, the Legal Studies program is a starting point for a student interested in the law. It is designed to be a transfer program; however, students may be able to transfer into a variety of different disciplines, including: paralegal, legal studies, law in liberal arts, and other bachelor's programs. If you are interested in the law, then Legal Studies is the right starting point for you!

  • Students who are interested in the law in any capacity would benefit from the Paralegal Studies program. You will learn the substantive nature of the law, as well as how to transfer that knowledge into the skills needed to be successful in the legal profession.
