The Ivy Tech Madison Commencement ceremony will be at 11:00am on Saturday, May 11th in the Center Stage Showroom at Belterra Casino Resort in Florence, Indiana. The ceremony usually lasts 60 to 90 minutes. Graduating students’ names will be announced, and students will cross the stage to be recognized for their achievements. Given the size of the space used for the ceremony, all graduates will receive a short survey to confirm your attendance at the ceremony, as well the number of guests you plan to bring. This survey will be sent to your Ivy Tech student email address.

Graduating students should assemble at Belterra no later than 10:00am to prep for the 11:00am start time. We will have staff present to direct students. Be sure to leave all valuables, including cell phones and purses, with family and/or friends prior to the lineup.

Photography

Families are welcome to take pictures or video, but must remain in their seats so they don’t block the view of the stage for other guests. A professional photographer will be taking photographs of the graduates as they walk across the stage and another close-up shot with their diploma. After the ceremony, the photographer will email proofs to you. Proofs can be viewed online at www.gradimages.com.

Diplomas

At Commencement, students will receive their diploma covers as names are announced and they walk across the stage. Actual diplomas are mailed after the ceremony according to the following timeline:

Fall graduates in February | Spring graduates in July | Summer graduates in September

If students are unable or do not plan to attend the graduation ceremony, diploma covers can be picked up in the Enrollment Center at the Madison campus.

What to wear

Plan your clothing so that it will look nice under your commencement gown. Business casual dress attire is appropriate. Jeans, shorts or athletic shoes are not appropriate. Corsages should not be worn during the ceremony. For appearance purposes, you should have your robe pressed or ironed before the ceremony.

Academic Honor Cords

Honor cords are awarded to graduates who have earned a cumulative GPA (grade point average), at the end of the Fall semester, of 3.50 or higher. Honor cords will be distributed on the day of Commencement, prior to the start of the ceremony.

Phi Theta Kappa Members

Members of Phi Theta Kappa are permitted to wear the Phi Theta Kappa stole and tassel for Commencement. It is your choice to wear either the Phi Theta Kappa tassel or the Ivy Tech tassel with your Phi Theta Kappa stole. However, you cannot wear both tassels. See your Phi Theta Kappa advisor for more information on ordering your stole and tassel.

Special Arrangements

Students who have special needs (such as wheelchairs) should contact the Express Enrollment Center prior to the commencement ceremony. At the ceremony, ushers will be available to help family members with special needs.

Career Planning

Students have access to many career planning resources and are encouraged to contact Career Coach, Nina Alcorn at aalcorn2@ivytech.edu as you take the next step in your journey.
