What you need to do to graduate:
If you have often experience others pronouncing your name incorrectly, please help us say your name correctly! Send a voice recording of your name to jpitstick@ivytech.edu.

Use this guide to provide us with your name using the phonetic alphabet.
You will receive a card during check-in at the ceremony that has your school, program, and name listed with room to include the phonetic pronunciation. Make sure the program listed is correct and work with a volunteer if it is not. If you have not provided us with the phonetic pronunciation already, be sure to include this information in writing on the walking card.
Please note: the day of commencement will involve climbing stairs and walking some distance between buildings; if either of these things presents an obstacle for you please notify us so we can provide alternative arrangements designed to maximize your ability to fully and safely participate in commencement exercises. Students are required to wear a cap and gown in order to participate in the commencement ceremony. If you require assistance in acquiring your cap and gown, please fill out this form (click here).
Commencement is held in May. Students will be invited to participate if they graduated in December or are on track to graduate in May and August. If you are invited to commencement and you have not already received your diploma, check with your academic advisor to verify that you will meet the requirements to complete your degree.
In MyIvy search for View/Pay Balance to see if you have any outstanding balance. Contact the Cashier’s Office if you have any questions regarding your balance or to pay your balance.
You will receive an email from the Registrar’s office containing information. Please RSVP using this link if you plan to attend the ceremony, this will guarantee that you have a seat at the ceremony and that your name will be read as you cross the stage.
Cap and gown can be ordered from https://ivytech.shopoakhalli.com/. You must have a cap and gown as well as a tassel in order to participate in the ceremony. Students who do not have a cap and gown will not be permitted to participate so pay close attention to the ordering deadlines. Orders must be submitted before March 20 for campus delivery, April 12 for home delivery (will include a delivery charge). You may call or visit the bookstore on campus for more information. The procession into Elliott Hall and getting from your seat to the stage requires standing and climbing stairs. If you are unable to climb stairs or require assistance, arrangements can be made but it is important that you let us know ahead of time so a volunteer can be prepared to assist you.
Elliott Hall of Music is located at University Drive and Third Street in West Lafayette, on the Purdue Campus. Students and guests must park in the University Street Parking garage. Handicapped parking will be available there.
Ivy Tech Lafayette’s commencement ceremony will be held Sunday, May 7, at Elliott Hall of Music on the Purdue University Campus. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. sharp.
Graduates must arrive in front of Hovde Hall, located next to Elliott Hall of Music, no later than 1 p.m. to check in the day of commencement. Late arrival may prevent graduates from being able to participate in the ceremony.
Elliott Hall will open to guests at 1:00 p.m.

You will be walking up steps and across a stage, so flat, comfortable dress shoes will be best for your safety. High heels are strongly discouraged.

Students will not receive their diplomas at commencement. Diplomas are sent to students in the mail approximately 6-8 weeks after the completion of the degree.
Ivy Tech welcomes its December graduates to attend our commencement ceremony and participate in the celebration.

We know your graduation is a significant milestone, and we want you to share your success with those who have helped you achieve it. There's no limit on how many guests you can bring to the ceremony.
Yes. Students are allowed to decorate their caps. Caps cannot have anything that dangles off the side of the cap that might interfere with the tassel. Decorations must be appropriate and not display obscene images or writing.
Unfortunately, live streaming of the event will not be available.
Graduates must remain for the entire ceremony. Graduates will be escorted by floor marshals and will not be permitted to leave Elliott Hall until the ceremony has concluded.
The ceremony usually lasts between 2 and 3 hours.
Guests are asked to remain seated until the ceremony has ended to prevent disruption during the recognition of graduates.
Yes, a professional photographer will be present. Pictures will be taken of each student as they are receiving their diploma cover. You are under no obligation to purchase any pictures. You will receive more information directly from the photographer a few weeks after commencement. Please make sure your address is correct in MyIvy and check your Ivy Tech email address for communications from the photographer.

No outside food or drinks are allowed inside Elliott Hall of Music.
Elliott Hall of Music is ADA accessible with a ramp, elevator, and designated handicapped seating. For our deaf and hard-of-hearing guests, an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter will be at the ceremony to translate.
