Participation

Students who will complete their degree requirements at the end of Fall 2025, Spring 2026, or Summer 2026 semesters may participate. There is no summer Commencement Ceremony.

Apply to Graduate

Be sure to apply to graduate to be awarded your credential and receive Commencement Ceremony communications. Go to MyIvy and search Apply to Graduate.

Graduation Details

  • Check Eligibility
    Students close to completing degree requirements should check their degree completion requirements with their academic advisor to ensure they are eligible to apply to graduate.

    If you are in the final semester of your program, you may be eligible to receive your credential!

    Apply to Graduate
    All students must apply to graduate to receive their degree. To receive important updates about the ceremony, apply as soon as you are registered for your final semester or in-progress toward final degree requirements.

    To apply for graduation, visit MyIvy and search Apply to Graduate.

    Order Your Cap & Gown
    Students who will participate in commencement must wear Ivy Tech commencement attire. This includes a black robe, a black cap, and tassel.

    RSVP to Attend Commencement
    Students planning to participate in Commencement must RSVP in advance by visiting the Registrar at Grad Fest or in the Enrollment Center. Each graduate who RSVPs will receive up to six guest tickets for the ceremony, and the event will also be live streamed so additional friends and family can celebrate from anywhere.

  • Graduates are required to wear a black undergraduate cap and gown to participate in Commencement. Students are welcome to purchase based on preference for package or vendor, however, only cap, gown, and tassel are required.

    The College partners with Herff Jones for official regalia, and students may order directly through the Lafayette ordering site, but students may purchase their cap and gown from any retailer as long as it is solid black and appropriate for a college ceremony.

    Orders will be shipped to home address within 2 weeks of order being placed. 

    Third Party Regalia Example

    Please review size charts carefully before ordering. Gown sizing varies by height, shoulder width, and sleeve length, so we strongly recommend measuring and comparing to the vendor’s chart to ensure the best fit. Allow adequate time for shipping and exchanges if needed.

    Dual credit or dual enrollment students:
    Students completing an Ivy Tech credential while still in high school are welcome to participate in Commencement. You may wear your high school regalia. If your high school regalia will not be available in time for our ceremony, you will need to purchase a black undergraduate cap and gown to participate.

  • Grad Fest
    Tuesday, February 24
    11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
    Ivy Hall 1370 (former Bookstore space)

    Grad Fest is your one-stop event to confirm your graduation, RSVP for Commencement, and receive important details like guest tickets, regalia information, and next steps before the ceremony. If you’re unable to attend Grad Fest, you can stop by the Registrar’s Office in the Enrollment Center at any time to complete your RSVP and get the information you need.

    • Graduates will arrive at Tippecanoe County Fairgrounds for check-in starting at 4 p.m. and no later than 4:45 p.m.
    • Family and friends can begin seating at 5 p.m.
    • Processional at 6 p.m. This includes the platform party, faculty, and graduates.
    • Program concludes with recessional.
    • A reception is available following the ceremony.
  • The commencement program will be available electronically below closer to the ceremony. An online QR code will be provided during the ceremony.

  • The Commencement Ceremony will be accessible via live stream on the Ivy Tech Lafayette Facebook page. 

  • Family and friends are invited to celebrate this special milestone with our graduates. Guest tickets are required for entry, and each graduate who RSVPs will receive up to six tickets to share with their guests.

    Seating for ticketed guests begins at 5 p.m. at the Tippecanoe County Fairgrounds. Graduates will check-in and be seated separately.

    For those unable to attend in person, the ceremony will be live streamed so additional family and friends can still take part in the celebration.

    Flowers and gifts will also be available for purchase on-site the day of the ceremony through The Commencement Group.

Common Questions

No. Graduates can pick up their cords and graduate cards at the annual Grad Fest event on campus, any time at the Registrar's Office, or at check in during commencement. When they arrive at the Tippecanoe County Fairgrounds, graduates will line up by school/program—we will have staff available for guidance.

RSVP'ing helps our team have your graduation name card ready and allows for a smoother check-in when you arrive at commencement.

If you forget to RSVP, no worries; you can still attend! Please let us know upon arrive that you have not RSVP'ed so we can prepare your graduation name card.

Yes, graduates will likely be standing from the moment they check in until they process into the auditorium. Graduates will walk up and down a ramp when receiving their diploma cover.

We can provide accommodations for graduates and guests who need them. For student accomodations, please let our team know by emailing lf-dss@ivytech.edu. When picking up guest tickets from the Registrar, please let our team know how many guests need accommodations to receive special tickets for our accessible seating.

Students must wear black undergraduate caps & gowns with comfortable shoes and business casual attire. Plan to give your personal belongings to your guests, as there is no place to store them during the ceremony.

Yes! Students are encouraged to decorate their caps. Note that decorations must be appropriate (no obscene language, writing, or imagery).  Ensure that the tassel can still be moved from one side to the other.

Don't panic. You can still participate in graduation by borrowing a plain black cap and gown from someone you know or buying them at a different store.

Each graduate who RSVPs for Commencement will receive up to six guest tickets to share with family and friends. Non-ticket holders may view the live stream from the comfort of their home or in our livestream viewing room at the Fairgrounds.

graduates will receive the Ivy Tech Community College diploma cover when they walk across the stage. Diplomas will be mailed out to the home address on file after they have been conferred. Degree conferral takes between 6-8 weeks after the term has ended. Students are encouraged to check their unofficial transcript to ensure the degree has been awarded.

Students who need to provide proof of graduation for an employer may email lf-registrar@ivytech.edu to request an official letter. Please allow 1-3 business days for us to process your request.
