Things that will be discussed will be how to plan a trip, where to go, how far to hike, permits, determining trail difficulty, and understanding the regulations for the area. We will also discuss essential gear that is needed and the difference between gear for locations and different times of year, along with hiking etiquette and how to pack your backpack.  The second day of class will focus on how to pick a campsite, safety considerations, hygiene in the back county, along with discussing the 10 essentials of hiking. We will also discuss navigation skills and map reading.

NOTE: No equipment needed, this is a classroom style learning opportunity. The class will meet for a hike on day two at Charles Deam Forest, but we will not be camping. More details on that hike will be provided during the first class.
