Graduate RSVPs for the commencement ceremony are now closed and all guest attendance tickets have been claimed. The ceremony will be live streamed at www.youtube.com/@ivytechbtown. Click the Live tab or check this page on the day of the event for a link!

Students who will complete their degree requirements at the end of Fall 2025, Spring 2026, or Summer 2026 semesters may participate. There is no summer ceremony.

Apply to Graduate

Be sure to apply to graduate by April 12 to be awarded your credential, receive commencement ceremony details, and for your name to be included in the commencement program. Go to MyIvy and search Apply to Graduate.

Graduation Details

  • Please note there is no general parking at IU Auditorium. Only those with government-issued accessibility* parking tags and special guests with VIP-issued parking tags are permitted to park at the IU Auditorium and around Showalter Fountain. Traffic may be heavy and delayed in this area.

    Entry is available via Gates 9, 10, and 11 of N. Dunn St. and the E. Indiana 45 Bypass. Complimentary parking and shuttle service are available to and from the IU Auditorium.

    Shuttle service will begin at 4 p.m. at the bus stop near Gate 9.

    Graduates and ticketed guests should arrive to IU Auditorium no later than 5:15 p.m. The ceremony begins promptly at 6 p.m.

    2026 Commencement Program

    Note: students must have a completed graduation application on file to be awarded their credentials, receive commencement communications, and be listed in the program (including credentials earned).

    • Graduates will arrive at IU Auditorium for check-in starting at approximately 4:30 p.m. and no later than 5:15 p.m.
    • Family & Friends can begin seating at 5 p.m.
    • Processional promptly at 6 p.m. This includes graduates, platform party, faculty, and staff.
    • Program concludes with recessional at approximately 8 p.m.
    • A dessert reception for graduates is available following the ceremony. 
  • Update: All guest tickets have now been claimed and additional guest attendance is unable to be accommodated. The event venue is sold out.

    Each graduate will receive up to four (4) guest tickets for the commencement ceremony. Graduates will receive an email from tickets@iu.edu with instructions to claim their guest tickets. Please watch for this email and be sure to claim your tickets by April 29.

    • Graduates will receive tickets to distribute to family & friends. Connect with your graduate for more info.
    • Seating for guests begins at 5 p.m. Graduates will check-in and be seated separately. 
    • Check back closer to the event for a live stream link to share with family and friends.
  • Check Eligibility

    Students close to completing degree requirements should check their degree completion requirements with their academic advisor to ensure they are eligible to apply to graduate.

    If you are in the final semester of your program, you may be eligible to receive your credential!

    Apply to Graduate

    All students must apply to graduate to receive their certificate or degree. To be included in the commencement program and receive important updates about the ceremony, be sure to apply by the deadline listed below. We recommend applying to graduate as soon as you are registered for your final semester or in-progress toward final degree requirements.

    To apply for graduation, login to MyIvy and search Apply to Graduate.

    Deadlines to apply and RSVP are below:

    • Fall 2025 Graduates – Apply by December 21, 2025
    • Spring 2026 Graduates – Apply by April 12, 2026
    • Summer 2026 Graduates – Apply by April 12, 2026

    Order Your Cap & Gown

    Students who will participate in commencement must wear Ivy Tech commencement attire. This includes a black robe, a black cap, and tassel. Check back early spring for updates on the ordering deadline and website link.

    Students are welcome to purchase packages based on preference, however, only cap, gown, and tassel are required.

    Attend Grad Fest to receive commencement information. Students who RSVP to attend commencement will receive follow-up details. 

Common Questions

No. Graduates can pick up their cords and graduate name cards at the annual Grad Fest event on campus or at commencement ceremony check-in. When they arrive at IU Auditorium, graduates will line up by school and program. Staff will be available for guidance.

Yes. RSVP is required for graduates to attend the commencement ceremony in order to reserve your spot and receive guest tickets. We recommend to attend Grad Fest to pick up your ceremony materials in advance, allowing you to skip the check-in line when you arrive at commencement. Otherwise, be sure to check-in when you arrive.

If you missed the deadline to RSVP for the ceremony, there is no guarantee attendance accommodations can be made. The event regularly sells out of seating.

Yes. Eligible students can apply to graduate until the end of the term. The application deadline is specific to Commencement activities to ensure we have seating reserved and your name in the electronic Commencement Program.

Yes, graduates will be standing from the moment they check in until processional into the auditorium. Graduates may be indoors or outdoors until the ceremony begins depending on the weather. Graduates will walk up and down stairs when receiving their diploma cover.

We can provide accommodations for graduates and guests who need them. Please let our team know by emailing bl-registrar@ivytech.edu. Accessible seating will be available for students and guests who need it. IU Auditorium ushers will be available to guide you when you arrive.

Students must wear black caps & gowns with comfortable shoes and business casual attire. 
Note: Plan ahead and give your personal belongings to your guests, as there is no place to store them or place them during the ceremony.

Yes! Students are encouraged to decorate their caps. Note that decorations must be appropriate (no obscene language, writing, or imagery). Ensure that the tassel can still be moved from one side to the other.

Don't panic. You can borrow a plain black cap and gown from someone you know or buy them at a different store. Tassels will be available for purchase at the Ivy Tech online bookstore.

Graduates who are unable to purchase gowns should reach out to bl-registrar@ivytech.edu.  We may be able to accommodate cap and gown needs.

Graduates must RSVP for the ceremony to reserve their spot at graduation and receive their guest tickets. Graduates will receive specific ticket information after the RSVP deadline.

Graduates with young children should plan on having their children sit with friends and family. Children who require individual seat will count towards total number of ticketed guests.

No. Graduates will receive an Ivy Tech Community College diploma cover when they walk across the stage. Physical diplomas will be mailed out to the home address on file after degrees have been conferred. Degree conferral can take between 6-8 weeks after the term has ended. Students are encouraged to check their unofficial transcript to ensure their degree has been awarded.

Students who need to provide proof of graduation for an employer should email bl-registrar@ivytech.edu to request an official letter. Please allow 1-3 business days for us to process your request.

Yes. Students who belong to honor societies may wear their regalia for the ceremony.

Please email bl-registrar@ivytech.edu to let us know if you or your guests require ADA accommodations. This may include an American Sign Language interpreter, accessible seating, entrance access (ramps/elevator), or audio/visual enhancement.
