The Ignite Former Foster Youth program, sponsored by the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust, is open to current and future students at Ivy Tech Indianapolis that could benefit from program resources and supports. Through Ignite, students will receive coaching, mentoring, and other resources and supports to aid them in their educational pursuits at Ivy Tech.

Eligibility Requirements


Ignite is designed to assist students that have experienced the foster care system, homelessness, and/or independent youth status that meet the following: 

  • Former foster care or homeless youth
  • Must be between the ages of 18-26
  • Not currently enrolled in college
  • Do not have a degree or certificate

Goals and Benefits


Benefits for the participating students and the community at large: The goals of Ignite are to provide on-campus and virtual support helping students navigate campus and the overall higher education system, as well as creating a culture of belonging. Support students in this program will receive assistance with include but are not limited to:

  • Counseling
  • Community service references
  • Financial aid
  • Housing issues
  • Scholarship and stipend opportunities
  • Support through the enrollment process

How to Apply


  • Step 1: Students will attend an information session about the program, lasting from 30 minutes to an hour. The information session will provide an overview of the program, introductions, and program requirements.
  • Step 2: After attending the information session, students will be sent an email with a link to complete a brief application. Students must complete the application within 10 calendar days. All students that qualify and complete the application will be accepted to the program.
  • Step 3: Students will be accepted to the program once or twice a month during the term or semester. The goal is to enroll students via Summer, Fall and spring cohorts.
