Academic Advising
| Schedule an advising appointment (see the Getting Started Guide for instructions). After you've completed orientation and assessment, your last step before registering for classes is to meet with an academic advisor. We encourage you to meet with an advisor early so you'll have first pick of the classes you want. Our team of advisors will meet with you to discuss your educational and career goals, then they'll help you design an academic plan that best fits your needs. All new students will meet with an academic advisor before registering for classes. An advisor will help you determine which courses to take to earn the degree or certificate of your choice, and if your goal is to transfer to a four year college or university, our advisors will help you with that too. As a continuing student, you will also have access to an academic advisor who will help you determine which courses to take to complete your degree or certificate program. Academic advising begins with entry to the college and continues through a series of meetings each semester during the student's first year. A student meets with an academic advisor following new student orientation. New students are required to meet with their academic advisor before registering for classes and are encouraged to meet with their faculty advisors at any time following their admission to the college. Northwest (East Chicago, Gary, Michigan City, Valparaiso)Academic advising begins with a student's first semester and continues through a series of meetings each semester. Students will meet with an Academic Advisor in the Advising Center each semester until 15 credit hours of program level coursework are completed. After completing 15 credit hours, students meet with a Faculty Advisor.
During the semester, students should call the Advising Center or their Faculty Advisor to schedule an advising appointment. Students are encouraged to schedule an appointment early in the semester.
Richmond (Connersville, Richmond)Students will work with the Academic Advising Center until they have accumulated 15 credit hours (100 level coursework or higher), upon which they will be referred to a Faculty Advisor in their declared area of interest. Students are encouraged to meet with their Academic Advisor or Faculty Advisor before registering for classes every semester. Academic Advisors see students by appointment. It is a centralized resource for students, faculty and staff. All students are welcomed to contact the Academic Advising Center with questions. All new, readmitting and transfer students should initially meet with an advisor in the Academic Advising Center. Students must meet with an academic advisor before registering for classes. Students who are Pre-Nursing and Undecided remain with an advisor in the Advising Center until they are accepted into the program, or declare a major.
