Understand Code Requirements and Jurisdiction. Interpret and apply the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) Sections I, IV, and VIII; Understand National Board Inspection Code (NBIC) Parts 1 (Installation), 2 (Inspection), and 3 (Repairs and Alterations); Apply jurisdictional rules and regulations governing boiler and pressure vessel installations and inspections.
Perform Effective Inspections. Identify required construction features and ensure compliance with applicable codes; Conduct internal and external inspections of boilers and pressure vessels; Assess equipment condition, detect corrosion, cracking, distortion, or other damage.
Ensure Documentation and Certification Compliance. Review and verify Manufacturer’s Data Reports and other documentation for code compliance; Understand stamping, nameplate requirements, and certification procedures.
Apply Welding and NDE Knowledge. Understand basic welding processes used in pressure equipment fabrication and repair; Interpret nondestructive examination (NDE) methods (e.g., RT, UT, MT, PT) and their application in inspection.
Evaluate Repairs and Alterations. Inspect and evaluate repairs and alterations for code compliance; Understand post-repair documentation and reinspection requirements.
Demonstrate Safety and Professionalism. Apply proper safety procedures during inspections and site visits; Communicate findings professionally in written reports and verbal consultations.
This training prepares participants for eligibility to sit for the National Board Commission examination, a key credential required for becoming a commissioned Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspector.
