Important Information

  • Clear Bag Policy: In accordance with Ball State Athletics’ policies, clear bags are required to enter Worthen Arena. The only exceptions to this policy are medically necessary items and diaper bags, following a proper inspection (Ball State security will be present to conduct these inspections).
    • Approved clear bags include:
      • Clear totes made of plastic, vinyl, or PVC (no larger than 12” x 6” x 12”)
      • Clear drawstring bags made of plastic, vinyl, or PVC (no larger than 12” x 12”)
      • One-gallon resealable clear storage bags
      • Small clear clutch purses (with or without a handle or strap) no larger than 4.5” x 6.5”
    • Graduates may pick up Ivy Tech clear bags from Student Life in the lobby of the John & Fisher Building on Tuesday, May 5, and Wednesday, May 6, between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
  • Entrance into Worthen Arena: Doors will open at 10:00 a.m. Graduates will enter through the Door 1 Lower Entrance (to the right). Guests may enter through the Door 1 Upper Entrance (to the left). Anyone with a disability should use the Door 1 Lower Entrance for access to elevators and the disability seating area. Doors 2 and 4 are for exiting only.
    • Graduates must go to the ticket booth to pick up their name cards. If you did not RSVP for graduation, cards will be available for you to provide your name and its phonetic pronunciation.
  • Dress Code: Business casual attire is required for graduates. Please wear comfortable, stable footwear. All graduates must wear a black cap and gown; no other colors are permitted. If you did not purchase a cap and gown, we will have a limited quantity of extras available for use; however, these must be returned following the ceremony.

PREPARE FOR GRADUATION

Please apply to graduate now  so we can ensure your name is added to the program book. A graduation application is required to ensure you receive a physical copy of your degree.

The deadline to make the commencement book is April 1st of the year you are graduating. 

How to Apply to Graduate:

  1. Log into MyIvy. 
  2. Click on Tools & Resources. 
  3. Choose "Apply to Graduate" in the Tools section.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions to apply!

  • Special Accommodations Request Form
    If you require special accommodations for the ceremony, please complete the Special Accommodations Form or call the Ivy Tech Disability Support Services (DSS) at (765) 715-3654.
  • RSVP for Commencement
    Only the graduate needs to RSVP for commencement. Please do not order extra seats for your guests, there is no limit to the number of guests you may have.

  • All students are welcome to attend this networking and confirmation event. Meet local employer partners, 4-year partners, and verify your diploma information. After verification is complete you will receive honors, military, ASAP, and/or High School cords, if applicable. 

    GRADFEST INFORMATION

    Check Status
    If you are unable to attend Gradfest, you need to verify your diploma information with the Records Office. The Records Office is located on the second floor of the George and Frances Ball Building at 125 South High Street, Muncie, IN 47305. You are welcome to call the Records Office at:

    You must have a cap and gown as well as a tassel in order to participate in the ceremony. Students who do not have a cap and gown will not be permitted to participate, so pay close attention to the ordering deadlines. If you require assistance in acquiring your cap and gown, please fill out this form.

    1st Deadline: April 6
    *Your cap and gown will be shipped to your home address within 2 weeks.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

No. Graduates can pick up their cords and graduate cards when they check in during commencement. When they arrive at Worthen Arena, they will enter through Lower Door 1 (Right Side) to check in. Once checked in, graduates will line up by school/program—we will have staff available to guide them.

Yes. Eligible students can apply to graduate until the end of the term. The application deadline is specific to Commencement and ensures we have your name in the Commencement Booklet and Program.

Graduates should wear their official black cap and gown (regalia) as required for commencement.

What type of shoes should I wear?

For safety and comfort, it is strongly advised to wear comfortable, flat shoes rather than heels or unstable footwear.

Can I wear accessories with my regalia?

You may wear any approved honor cords, stoles, or other academic accessories as designated by your school. However, be mindful that loose or oversized accessories may become a tripping hazard when navigating the stairs.

Is there a dress code under the gown?

Wear business casual or semi-formal attire under your gown. Avoid excessively bulky clothing, as it may be visible under your regalia.

Plan to give your personal belongings to your guests, as there is no place to store them during the ceremony.

Yes! Students are encouraged to decorate their caps. Keep an eye on the IvyLife page for cap decorating events held by Student Life! Note that decorations must be appropriate (no obscene language, writing, or imagery). Ensure that the tassel can still be moved from one side to the other.

Commencement is not a ticketed event – there is no limit to who you can bring! Graduates with young children should plan on having their children sit with friends and family.

No, graduates will receive the Ivy Tech Community College diploma cover when they walk across the stage. Diplomas will be mailed out to the home address on file after they have been conferred. Degree conferral takes between 6-8 weeks after the term has ended. Students are encouraged to check their unofficial transcript to ensure the degree has been awarded.
