Important steps to participate in CommencemeNT

Apply For Graduation

All graduating students must apply for graduation, even if you do not plan to attend commencement.

Students graduating in Fall 2023, Spring 2024 or Summer 2024 should apply for graduation.

To apply:

  1. Log into MyIvy
  2. Click Student > Advising > Apply to Graduate
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen to select your curriculum, name to appear on the diploma, mailing address and whether you will be attending the commencement ceremony

If you are not able to apply for graduation, please contact your advisor for assistance.

RSVP To Attend The Ceremony

All students who have applied to graduate must RSVP as to whether or not they will attend Commencement ceremonies. Please RSVP even if you do not plan to attend. You can RSVP by completing a brief survey HERE

  • Faculty Rental Regalia

    • Faculty will be able to order rental graduation regalia that will be delivered to their home.
    • The following link will take them to a website where they will be able to choose their respective campus and place their order: https://facultydirect.herffjones.com/ 
    • Deadline to order regalia is April 5.

  • Regalia Information
    All participants are required to wear a black graduation cap and gown. It must fit and be zipped prior to the Commencement ceremony beginning.

    • Students can place their regalia order by going to https://colleges.herffjones.com/college/ivytech/LakeCounty.html 
    • Students will have the option to order and pay on-line, and have the regalia shipped to their home, or place the order online, but choose to pick up and pay in store.
    • Order deadline to ship to the campus bookstore is March 15, with delivery April 17. Order deadline for ship to home is April 5. 

    Tassel colors

    • Associate degrees: SOLID GREEN
    • Technical certificates: SOLID WHITE
    • Certificates: SOLID GRAY
    • Phi Theta Kappa students will wear white or green tassels, which correspond to technical certificate and associate degree, respectively.

    Honor Cords

    • Students with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher as of the fall semester are eligible for honor cords.

  • No walk-ins will be permitted at Commencement. All students planning to attend Commencement must have applied to graduate and RSVP'd for the ceremony. Please see the links above on how to apply to graduate and RSVP.

    • All graduates must wear Ivy Tech regalia (cap and gown). Dual credit or dual enrollment students may wear the regalia associated with their particular high school if they so choose but are welcome to purchase Ivy Tech regalia. Please see the links above to order Ivy Tech regalia.
    • Students can arrive beginning at 2:30 p.m. and should enter through the Diamond Club entrance. Photo booths in the Diamond Club are for graduates only. There will be other photo booths and photo backdrops available on the concourse for guests to share in photography fun!
    • Due to safety concerns navigating stairs and to maintain the quality of the Railcats' field, NO HIGH-HEELED FOOTWEAR OR WEDGES WILL BE ALLOWED.
    • THIS IS AN OUTDOOR CEREMONY. Please note that unless weather conditions are extreme (lightning, etc.), the ceremony will go on as planned. We will have rain ponchos for the graduates in case of rain, but we strongly advise that if rain seems imminent, guests should bring rain gear (poncho/raincoat/umbrella) and that graduates should avoid wearing open-toed footwear, as they will be walking on the field.

    • There is no place to keep personal belongings during the ceremony. Please leave these items with friends or family members.
    • Main gates open at 3 p.m. Spectators will not be allowed into the stadium until this time, even if dropping off a graduate at 2:30 p.m.
    • Cookies and water will be available for graduates in the Diamond Club. Concession stands will be open starting at 3 p.m. They will close briefly as graduates line up and process onto the field, starting approximately 4:15 p.m., then re-open when graduates are on the field. 
    • Graduates will be led into the ceremony in a processional and you will sit in the order in which you line up.
    • You will be directed to the front when it is time for you to receive your diploma.
    • Photos will be taken by a professional photographer of graduates receiving their diploma.
    • Graduates will be directed to return to their seat until the end of the ceremony, when everyone will process out of the stadium.

    Guests

    Guests will not require a ticket to attend graduation. Seating is General Admission and is first-come, first-served. 

    Streaming

    The ceremony will be livestreamed on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/IvyTechLakeCounty or @IvyTechLakeCounty. Please note that due to copyright issues, there will be no audio during the playing of the National Anthem but audio will resume when the anthem is finished. 

  • Cooley's Video will be taking professional photographs before, during and after the ceremony. Photos will be available for purchase several days after Commencement. 

  • A link to an electronic copy of our Commencement program will be provided here in the days preceding Commencement.

  • Separate ADA parking will be available. There also will be a designated drop-off ADA area.
