About Ivy Tech Lake County

Ivy Tech Community College’s Lake County campus serves all of Lake County, which stretches from the shores of Lake Michigan south to the Kankakee River, and from the Illinois state line on the west to Porter County on the east. Ivy Tech-Lake County has locations in Crown Point, East Chicago and Gary. Formerly part of Ivy Tech’s Northwest Region, it has been a stand-alone campus since 2018.

We offer traditional, face-to-face courses and distance learning opportunities, as well as hybrid courses. Students can choose from a variety of technical certificates and associate degrees, so graduates leave our campus ready to join the workforce or to transfer to a four-year university.

Chancellor’s Bio & Welcome

Chancellor Louie Gonzalez

R. Louie Gonzalez has spent a lifetime serving the community of Northwest Indiana. He graduated from Calumet College of St. Joseph, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He later earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Indiana University Northwest. Chancellor Gonzalez worked as a recruiter for both Calumet College and IUN, where he found his passion for higher education.

After serving for 10 years as President of Ivy Tech’s East Chicago Campus, President Sue Ellspermann appointed him Chancellor of the newly formed Lake County Campus in June 2017, overseeing the Gary, East Chicago and Crown Point locations. He serves on the boards of many community organizations, including the Urban League of Northwest Indiana, St. Catherine Hospital and Legacy Foundation, and was named 2014 Business Person of the Year by the Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce. He is a firm believer that a strong partnership between Northwest Indiana’s businesses and educational institutions is essential for their mutual success and for the success of its people.
