Types of Classes You Can Take at Ivy Tech

Traditional

Classes are exactly what you might expect. In this format the instructor and students gather in an on-campus classroom at a scheduled time.

Online

Classes are where there is no scheduled class meeting time but students do have plenty of opportunity to interact with their instructor through IvyLearn. Course assignments will be assigned and completed through your IvyLearn class page on a weekly (or regular) basis.

Virtual

Classes are similar to traditional classes but instead of meeting in the classroom you meet in a live video call at a scheduled time.

Blended

Classes mix the traditional course format with virtual or online formats. There is a scheduled class time, but you’ll spend some days in the classroom, and some days in an online learning space.

Learn Anywhere

Classes are taught in the classroom at a scheduled time but can also be accessed in a virtual format. Attendance at each class session is mandatory but students have the choice of whether they would like to attend in person or virtually on a week-to-week basis.

New Student Enrollment Steps

Congratulations and welcome to Ivy Tech! You’ve taken the first important step towards your future. Now that you’ve applied, and been accepted, there are some additional steps you need to complete before you can register.

Classes start every 8 weeks, so be sure to complete these steps soon so you can register and have time to prepare for classes to start. Here are your next steps to take to get register for classes.

STEP 1

Set up your MyIvy Account
You received a welcome letter just like this one!

This letter included your student ID, also known as a C-number. Be sure to store for safe-keeping! You will access your MyIvy account all the time, as it is the platform for your student information.

STEP 2

Meet with an Enrollment Specialist on your campus
You can meet in person, virtually or by phone. This person will serve as your partner throughout the registration process and can help answer questions, give you a campus tour, and guide you if you get stuck along the way.

STEP 3

File your FAFSA
Filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is an important step in the registration process. Many students qualify for aid and receive up to $6,400 that can be used toward tuition, as well as cost of living expenses like transportation and rent. Financial aid may make you eligible for other grants and scholarship opportunities.

STEP 4

Submit Transcripts
If you are a recent high school graduate or taken college courses, you should submit your transcripts to Ivy Tech. Not all students need to submit transcripts so ask your Enrollment Specialist if you need to complete this step.

STEP 5

Complete your Knowledge Assessment
In order to make sure the classes you take are the right fit for you, Ivy Tech needs to determine your reading, writing, and math skills through the assessment process. This important step can even help you graduate faster than expected!

Need help navigating the assessment process? Click here for a helpful guide!

You may not need to take Knowledge Assessment if you have met other placement methods such as High School GPA or an SAT score. Ask your Enrollment Specialist to help you with this step.

STEP 6

Meet with a Career Coach

There’s no question the impact your education will have on your career path and earning potential.  And that’s why  it’s important to get started with Ivy Tech Career Coaching right away.

From explaining what career options are out there, to which Ivy Tech programs get you where you want to go, your Career Coach will support you through your entire journey.

STEP 7

Meet with your advisor

Once you have completed the steps above, you will need to meet with your academic advisor. Our Advisors will be your guide as you determine which courses to take each semester. Ivy Tech wants to ensure that all students have the best possible experience, which is why we require you to meet with an advisor to build an Academic Completion Plan. Working with an advisor to create and, if necessary, edit your plan, could save you time and money. Prepare for your advising appointment by reviewing our checklist. You can find your advisor’s contact information by logging into your MyIvy account.

STEP 8
