It is important when seeking financial aid that you file your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is your key to financial aid such as grants and scholarships that do not have to be paid back. The FAFSA provides a FAFSA4caster tool to estimate your eligibility for federal student aid on their website. Grants are the best type of gift-aid, as they are awards that do not have to be paid back. Below is a list of top grants available at Ivy Tech Community College. Federal Pell Grant

Description: Federal need-based grant. Beginning with aid year 2017/2018, an eligible student may receive up to 150 percent of their scheduled annual Federal Pell Grant award in a single award year per the US Department of Education Appropriation Act of 2017. 

Eligibility: US citizen, high school diploma, High School Equivalency Diploma or demonstrated Ability to Benefit, enrolled in an aid eligible program of study, all financial aid requirements must be completed, student must have remaining Pell Lifetime Eligibility Used. A student must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours during the semester when the additional Pell Grant funds (any amount above 100 percent of their scheduled award amount) are disbursed.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant

Description: Federal need-based grant. Award amounts are based on your enrollment for each semester.  You may be awarded the full-time amount originally. However, the actual amount posted to your account will reflect your actual enrollment for the semester.

Eligibility: Students with a 0 EFC on their FAFSA and who meet all other federal aid eligibility requirements will be considered for this award. However, due to limited funds, not all students who meet these requirements will be awarded SEOG funds. The SEOG funds are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

Frank O'Bannon Grant

Description: State grant based on financial need (as determined by the FAFSA)

Eligibility:  Indiana resident; enrolled in 12 or more credit hours; degree-seeking student; US Citizen or eligible non-citizen, high school graduate or High School Equivalency Diploma; Fall and/or spring semesters (limited availability for summer semesters).

Application: Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be received by federal processor by April 15

21st Century Scholarship

Description: State scholarship for income-eligible students

Eligibility: Indiana resident; enrolled in 12 or more credit hours; degree-seeking student; US Citizen or eligible non-citizen; high school graduate or High School Equivalency Diploma; Fall and/or spring semesters (limited availability for summer semesters).

Description: State grant for eligible members of the Indiana Air and Army National Guard

Child of Veteran and Public Safety Officer Supplemental Grant Program

Description: State non-need-based fee remission

Eligibility: Certain graduates of the Soldiers' and Sailors' Children's Home; children of Purple Heart recipient or wounded veteran; children of deceased or disabled veteran; children of POW/MIA from Vietnam War; child or spouse of a police officer, firefighter or EMT killed in the line of duty; child or spouse of an Indiana state police trooper permanently and totally disabled in the line of duty

TEACH Grant

Ivy Tech Community College does not participate in the TEACH grant program.


Proteus, Inc. / Department of Labor Grant

Description: Grant from the Department of Labor that assists those who have done seasonal and migrant farm work within the last 2 years.  This grant can assist students with tuition, books, tools, and a weekly stipend for time spent in the classroom.

Eligibility: Students who have done seasonal and migrant farm work in the last 2 years and those planning on obtaining a two-year degree or certification

Workforce Ready Grant

Description: State grant for students pursuing qualified certificate programs.

Eligibility: Indiana resident; enrolled in a qualified certificate program, enrolled in 6 or more credit hours (if independent) or 12 or more credit hours (if dependent); covers tuition and fee charges remaining after other financial aid is applied; high school diploma (or equivalent) but less than a college degree; US Citizen or eligible non-citizen; Fall and/or spring semesters (limited availability for summer semesters).

Grant Alternatives

Students that filled out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and did not qualify for Federal Grants may still qualify for other types of financial assistance. 

  • Scholarships - Scholarships are gift-aid and do not require repayment. This list may not include all opportunities at every Ivy Tech Community College location. Scholarships are often offered at campus or community levels.
  • Federal Work Study - Combining work and study can be an option for funding education. For all types of Work Study employment, you will work a specific number of hours per week and be paid bi-weekly. Ideally your employment will be in an area related to your course of study.
  • Federal Direct Student Loans - Loans are available as a means of funding your education. Unlike gift aid such as scholarships or grants, loans must be repaid.
  • Tuition Payment Plan - Easy online enrollment. Monthly payment plan. No Interest.
