Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Certification Prep

Prepare to launch your healthcare career with our CMA Certification Prep Course! Designed for aspiring medical assistants, this course provides comprehensive training in both clinical and administrative skills aligned with the CMA exam. You'll review anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, patient care procedures, EKG and phlebotomy basics, medical office operations, and healthcare law and ethics. With expert instruction, hands-on practice, and test-taking strategies, you'll be fully equipped to pass the CMA exam and thrive in a fast-paced medical environment.

The Certified Medical Assistance (CMA) course is designed to review the medical assisting knowledge areas in preparation for the CMA national examination. Administrative, clinical, and general information is reviewed, and Testing procedures are addressed. The Content knowledge in the following areas will be reviewed through lecture and self-study:

  • medical terminology
  • anatomy & physiology
  • pathophysiology
  • microbiology
  • general psychology
  • nutrition
  • Medical law & ethics

Administrative knowledge includes:

  • general office duties
  • communication in the medical office
  • financial management
  • medical insurance
  • Basic coding.

The Clinical Content includes:

  • Blood-borne pathogens
  • Patient preparation
  • Check Vital signs
  • Pharmacology; medication administration
  • Electrocardiography, radiology
  • physical therapy
  • medical emergencies
  • First aid, and laboratory procedures

Ivy Tech cannot guarantee that any student will pass a certification or licensing exam. The goal of providing a certification exam studies class is to assist in understanding the material sufficiently to provide a firm foundation for studies in preparation for the exam.

Employee registration is coordinated by the Program Manager supporting your training. Depending on the course, employees may register in person, through an organization-provided roster, or via a self-registration link. Your Program Manager will guide you through the best option for your specific training.
