Asbestos Project Supervisor (Initial)

State and federal regulations including OSHA, EPA, and DOT requirements mandate that asbestos abatement projects in schools, public buildings, and most commercial settings be overseen by accredited Project Supervisors. This comprehensive training program provides the knowledge, skills, and credentials needed to lead asbestos removal operations safely, effectively, and in full regulatory compliance.

Delivered under the supervision of the Ivy Tech Environmental Management Institute (Indianapolis), this course fulfills the accreditation requirements for EPA, Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky, and is accepted in additional EPA-approval states such as Michigan and Ohio.

This training is also required by OSHA for competent persons overseeing Class I and Class II asbestos work.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the nature, properties, and uses of asbestos and accurately identify asbestos-containing materials (ACM).
  • Describe the health effects associated with asbestos exposure and the importance of implementing protective controls.
  • Apply state-of-the-art work practices for recognizing, handling, and managing ACM in a variety of building conditions.
  • Interpret and follow federal, state, and local regulations governing asbestos abatement, including OSHA, EPA, and waste disposal requirements.
  • Implement compliant procedures for the packaging, labeling, transport, and disposal of asbestos waste.

Participants will also receive hands-on training in:

  • Managing and cleaning minor fiber-release episodes using approved containment and cleanup methods.
  • Removing resilient floor tile and associated mastics in accordance with safe work protocols.
