Ivy Tech Community College Terre Haute and Vigo County School Corporation (VCSC) have partnered for the second year to provide local rising eighth graders with hands-on career exploration opportunities through TechQuest, a week-long camp designed to introduce students to a variety of future career options.
Throughout the week, students will explore a range of high-demand fields, including machine tool technology, robotics, welding, precision agriculture, healthcare, and diesel and automotive technologies. Through interactive activities and access to Ivy Tech’s advanced learning labs, participants will gain firsthand experience with a variety of educational and career pathways available in Vigo County.
"TechQuest gives students the opportunity to explore new interests and discover possibilities they may not have previously considered," said Dr. Chris Himsel, superintendent of Vigo County School Corporation. "Experiences like this help students connect what they are learning in school to future education and career opportunities while encouraging curiosity and confidence."
"One of the most rewarding aspects of TechQuest is seeing students step outside their comfort zones, try something new, and discover talents and interests they didn't know they had," said Amanda Cox, assistant vice chancellor of enrollment and student success. "By bringing together educators, community partners, and hands-on learning experiences, we can help students begin exploring the many possibilities available to them in the future."
The camp is offered at no cost to participating students, with transportation and meals provided throughout the week.
TechQuest is made possible through the generous support of Vigo County School Corporation, the Glenn Bailey Foundation, the Ivy Tech Foundation, and with startup support from Alpa Patel who serves on Ivy Tech and Vigo County Education Foundation boards.
