KOKOMO, Ind. – Ivy Tech Community College welcomed Governor Mike Braun and Mayor Tyler Moore to its Kokomo campus Tuesday for a tour and discussion about workforce education in Indiana.
Governor Braun and Mayor Moore met with Ivy Tech leadership to discuss how the College is preparing students to meet the evolving workforce needs of employers throughout the Kokomo region and across the state.
The visit included a tour of Ivy Tech’s Health Professions Center, where guests met with students and faculty and observed hands-on learning in healthcare and advanced manufacturing labs. The tour highlighted the practical training that is preparing students for high-demand careers and strengthening Indiana’s workforce pipeline.
“Indiana’s future depends on a skilled workforce that is ready to meet the needs of employers and communities across our state,” Gov. Braun said. “Ivy Tech continues to play a critical role in that effort by providing hands-on training and career-focused education that helps Hoosiers succeed and supports economic growth throughout Indiana.”
Joining the tour were Ivy Tech President Marty Pollio, State Board of Trustees member Jack Hingst, and Kokomo Chancellor Ethan Heicher.
“We were honored to welcome Governor Braun to our Kokomo campus and showcase the impact Ivy Tech is making across Indiana,” Pollio said. “By partnering closely with employers and communities, we are helping students gain the skills and credentials they need to thrive in today’s workforce while supporting the talent needs that drive our state’s economy.”
The Ivy Tech Kokomo Service Area serves approximately 7,000 students annually and supports the region’s key industries, including manufacturing, healthcare, education, and agriculture.
“Our faculty and staff are committed to providing students with the knowledge, skills, and real-world experience needed to succeed,” Heicher said. “We are proud of the role our Kokomo campus plays in developing talent, strengthening our community by creating opportunity, and helping meet the workforce needs of employers throughout our region.”
Earlier this year, Gov. Braun signed Senate Enrolled Act 254, which updates Ivy Tech’s statutory mission and governing structure. As Indiana’s largest public postsecondary institution and the nation’s only singly accredited community college, Ivy Tech serves more than 215,000 students with more than 70 programs and 40 learning locations across Indiana designed to lead directly to in-demand careers or seamless transfer opportunities to four-year universities.
