On July 15, 2021, Ivy Tech Community College’s Bloomington campus received a fire hydrant donation valued at $3,000 from American AVK Co. for its Public Safety program. American AVK Co has 70 companies globally and is the leading supplier of fire hydrants, gate valves, and fire protection equipment. The donated hydrant will be used in Ivy Tech classrooms for fire science training and education.
The Public Safety program at Ivy Tech Bloomington prepares graduates for in-demand careers in emergency preparedness and response, and environmental health and safety. The median salary for Ivy Tech graduates that work in the industry is nearly $40,000 per year, according to U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics state wage data, May 2019.
Students can complete Ivy Tech fire science training in as little as two to four semesters and earn anywhere from a certificate to a full associate degree, qualifying them for employment in the field.
Volunteer firefighters have the opportunity to earn a free associate degree in any eligible field of study at Ivy Tech, not exclusive to fire sciences. For more information, visit the Volunteer Firefighter Scholarship webpage.
