Ivy Tech Launches New Strategic Plan

Today, Ivy Tech Community College launches its new Strategic Plan, “The Future of College,” that will guide the College through 2030.
 
Stakeholders across the College and Indiana provided input for the creation of the plan. “The Future of College” builds on Ivy Tech’s past successes in serving as the state’s workforce engine and aims to redefine what a community college can achieve, setting a new national standard.
 
“Ivy Tech is already recognized nationally for expanding opportunity and driving workforce success, but our goal is to set the standard for what a community college can achieve,” Ivy Tech President Marty Pollio said. “This strategic plan provides a clear roadmap for strengthening our impact and ensuring we continue to deliver exceptional outcomes for our students, communities, employers, and the state of Indiana.”
 
In the last 10 years, Ivy Tech has made significant strides in serving Hoosiers and communities through accessibility, affordability, and alignment with workforce needs.

• In the most recent academic year (2025-2026), Ivy Tech reached its highest headcount in history, with more than 215,000 students.
• The number of certificates, degrees, and certifications awarded has grown more than 27 percent since the start of the decade.
• More than four in every five graduates leave Ivy Tech with no student debt and stay in Indiana to live and work.
• Ivy Tech contributes $4.8 billion to the Indiana economy each year.

The new Strategic Plan, along with the recently-approved SEA 254, sets the foundation of where Ivy Tech is going to best serve the state of Indiana.
 
“The College will focus on ensuring Ivy Tech is meeting the needs of the state now and in the future as a sustainable, future-ready institution, with high-quality academics, aligned to Indiana’s evolving workforce, that support all learners through their educational journey,” said Ivy Tech State Board Chairwoman Kim Emmert-O'Dell.
 
Progress to those goals will be monitored through a series of metrics that measure the impact of Ivy Tech, including:

• enrollment and retention of students
• completions
• wages earned after completion
• educational advancement

The College will also provide stories of real-life impact on our students and communities at each of Ivy Tech’s 19 campuses that align to the plan’s four pillars:

• Academic and Instructional Quality: Ensuring Ivy Tech is known for delivering high-quality academic programs, including being the largest community college system in the U.S. to earn full ATMAE accreditation.
• Career and Transfer Pathways: Branching out of what was traditionally seen as an apprenticeship – often focused on construction or other trades – to add options in education, healthcare and community service, giving students more options to gain an education while still working.
• Student-Centered Journey: Helping students confront and overcome barriers to their education through personalized, wraparound services.
• Innovation and Future Readiness: Working to integrate AI into all programs to prepare workers for the needs of their future employers.

Each of the College’s 19 campuses will also create goals and initiatives that align with the Strategic Plan, while also serving their individual communities. This fall, campuses will share their goals, plans and targets under the new plan.
