For Magnim Apou Alemo, studying biotechnology at Ivy Tech Community College opened doors she never imagined.
“I wanted something that would put me in the hospital, in a manufacturing company, or in the lab—somewhere I could work with my hands,” Alemo said.
During a campus workshop, she learned about the Lilly Scholars at Ivy Tech program, which offers full tuition for eligible biotechnology students. She applied, was accepted, and found the experience transformative.
“My school was paid for in full, and I had the opportunity to be invited to Eli Lilly, interact with employees, and learn how they work,” she said. “I saw them as mentors I can lean on to get to where I want to be.”
Alemo, who is close to completing her associate degree, credits the Lilly Scholars program with helping her gain skills, confidence, and industry connections. She encourages others to consider biotechnology for its wide range of career paths—from medical and cosmetic manufacturing to global opportunities in food and medical device production.
The Lilly Scholars at Ivy Tech program is part of Eli Lilly and Company’s investment in building Indiana’s biotech workforce. In addition to full tuition coverage, it offers mentorship, networking opportunities, and a direct pathway into the state’s growing life sciences sector.
