Meet Erika

Erika and her family moved to Terre Haute from Texas a few years ago, after
immigrating to the United States from Mexico City in 1990. At graduation, Erika
earned her technical certificate in business operations, applications, and
technology. She is considering earning her bachelor’s degree and opening her own
accounting business.

Meet Demitri

After graduating high school in 2016, Demitri wasn’t set on going to college right away. After a short time, she started her post-secondary education at another college, only to have the whole college system shut down not long before she was set to graduate. “That’s when I realized the importance of accreditation. Ivy Tech is a highly reputable, accredited college with a lot of degree options. Plus, it’s extremely affordable,” she said. “It should have been my first choice.” Demitri graduated with her associate degree in elementary education and notes that Ivy Tech’s flexible course schedule and online options made it possible for her to pursue her degree while juggling a family. Demitri plans to transfer to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College to pursue her bachelor’s degree.

Meet Anthony

Anthony has spent his career at Regional Hospital, and in 2020, he learned about the supply chain management and logistics program at Ivy Tech. “My dream was to be a supply chain director and I wanted a reputable program to help me grow my career,” said Anthony. “I could not have picked a better program.” With the start of the pandemic, all of Anthony’s classes were online. “I thought I’d be better suited for an in-person environment, but I soon realized that excellent faculty make all the difference,” he added. Anthony credits his instructors for helping to develop his confidence as well as his skills and knowledge, and he felt having industry experience gave him a slight advantage. “The variety of students in my classes added to the positive experience. Those who already have some industry experience can help draw connections from the coursework to real-world applications. I almost felt like a mentor at times,” he said. Anthony graduated with his associate degree in supply chain management and logistics and currently serves in a supply chain leadership role at Regional Hospital—one step closer to achieving his dream. He plans to pursue his bachelor’s degree at Western Governors University, taking advantage of the transfer partnership between the two institutions.

Meet Kaitlynne

After graduating high school in 2019, Kaitlynne began her college career at Franklin College and soon realized it wasn’t the right fit. “I wanted to play softball but didn’t feel like I had the other support to be successful at Franklin,” she said. “When I transferred to Ivy Tech in 2020, I soon discovered how fantastic the professors were and how focused they are on student success.” Kaitlynne was able to manage her classes and a job, and her instructors were understanding and supportive. “I knew that if I fell behind, I’d have the support to get back on track,” she added. Her positive experience influenced her sister’s decision to start classes at Ivy Tech to work toward her degree in early childhood education. Kaitlynne graduated with her associate degree in elementary education and plans to take advantage of Ivy Tech’s transfer program to pursue her bachelor’s degree at Western Governors University.
