WHAT IS THE ENLISTED TRAINING CORPS (ETC) PROGRAM?
The Enlisted Training Corps (ETC) is a proposed program that aims to offer a new pathway for community college students to enlist in the military. The program provides students with a structured training experience, similar to the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC), that would educate and prepare them for military service.
WHY IT MATTERS?
- Addressing the Recruiting Need: The ETC could help address the ongoing challenge of military recruitment by providing a more accessible and structured path to enlistment designed to attract a wider range of candidates.
- Diversifying the Enlisted Force: The ETC could help diversify the enlisted force by attracting individuals from a variety of backgrounds who might not otherwise consider military service.
- Improving Retention: By providing a more tailored and engaging training experience, the ETC could help to improve retention rates among enlisted personnel.
Overall, the ETC represents a promising initiative that could have a significant impact on the future of military recruitment and service.
STRATEGIC ALIGNMENT
- Align with New IDOE Enlistment & Service Seal: Promote and recognize schools supporting military and public service careers, fostering a unified statewide approach.
- Align with Statewide Collegiate Purple Star Efforts & Partnerships: Collaborate to strengthen support systems and resources for students pursuing military and public service.
- Increase Awareness of Military & Public Service Career Pathways: Educate students on diverse opportunities, benefits (job security, salary, growth), and inspire consideration of these fulfilling paths.
- Shared Vision to Grow the Public Service Pipeline: Collaborate to inform and support more students in exploring and pursuing public service careers, benefiting individuals, communities, and the nation.
