Bonita Schmidt Scholarship

The Aurora Chapter of Tri Kappa sponsors this scholarship to celebrate the spirit of Bonita Miller Schmidt. Bonita was a member of Tri Kappa for 33 years and during her service held all offices. Many will remember her smile and strong work ethic. She believed with motivation and desire one could accomplish any goal. It is in this memory that the Aurora Chapter of Tri Kappa honors her with this scholarship. Bonita lost her battle to ovarian cancer in 2006, but her spirit and belief that one should never give up inspired this scholarship. Recipients of this scholarship should remember by virtue of attending college and accomplishing the first year of rigorous nursing program, anything is attainable.

Floyd Miller Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established in Floyd C. Miller's memory by family and friends to assist a student enrolled at the Lawrenceburg or Batesville campus. Floyd was an honored math educator for 44 years. He spent 4 years at Ivy Tech as an adjunct and an associate professor at both Lawrenceburg and Batesville campuses. He always made himself available to any student who needed extra help or encouragement to help them  succeed. This scholarship is intended to aid the financial burden for a student pursuing a career in education. Student must be enrolled in either the ECED or EDUC program full or part time. The Gene Haas Foundation's goals are to introduce students to careers in machine tachnology and manufacturing. Gene Haas is founder and president of Haas Automation, a CNC machine tool manufacturer. He has a passion for revitalizing the manufacturing industry in our country and has invested million in educational projects throughout the years. Toby was a non-traditional adult student who began his college journey at age 40 after a life altering illness forced him to leave his skilled trade of 22 years due to physical limitations. As a first-generation student, he was intimidated to enroll, but he immediately felt valued and supported by both the faculty and staff at Ivy Tech, which ultimately inspired him to take the higher education career path himself.
