This training will sharpen your confidence, compassion, critical thinking, and manual dexterity so that you can gain employment in this growing industry.

The Clinical Medical Assisting class prepares students for work in healthcare settings. Medical Assistants perform various clinical tasks to assist doctors, including assisting with medication administration and minor procedures, performing electrocardiogram (EKG) tests, obtaining lab specimens for testing, and educating patients. Students who complete this comprehensive class will be prepared to take the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national certification exam, which is included in the class. This training will sharpen your confidence, compassion, critical thinking, and manual dexterity so that you can gain employment in this growing industry.

  • Students who pass the CCMA certification can earn 3 credits toward the Medical Assisting associate degree or the CCMA Development Prep certificate program by taking MEAS 225.
  • Applicants should have or be pursuing a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Applicants must complete TB and drug tests.

Successful students will be qualified for roles as Medical Assistants in physicians' offices, clinics, chiropractic offices, hospitals, and outpatient facilities. The median annual salary for a Medical Assistant in the United States is $38,2701. Throughout the program, students study the clinical aspects of operating a medical office, gaining the skills needed to assist doctors.

Ivy Tech skills training classes do not earn you college credit on their own, but they may crosswalk into Ivy Tech's academic degree programs should you decide to pursue that route in the future. Speak with an advisor to learn more about getting credit for prior learning.
