This hands-on training course is designed for individuals interested in learning the craft of wooden window sash restoration, a vital skill in the field of historic preservation. Throughout this workshop, participants will explore the techniques and tools necessary to restore and preserve original wooden window sashes, a key architectural feature in heritage buildings.

  1. Simple hand tools are used to reclaim and prepare wooden window sashes to receive new glass and traditional glazing.
  2. Learning to identify the presence of lead and its abatement.
  3. Quickly assess general conditions and design repair procedures.
  4. Understanding safety protocols, using personal protection equipment (PPE), and safe waste disposal.
  5. Forming and molding epoxy products to rebuild missing elements.
  6. Safe removal of broken glass and glazing, which has failed over time.
  7. Measuring and cutting of glass followed by application of glazing compounds of various types.
  8. The use of appropriate primers and finishes.
