Blueprint Reading

Provides an introduction to reading and interpreting machine shop symbols, welding blueprints, and working drawings used in trades and crafts. Focus on dimension, shape, fabrication, and assembly. Apply basic mathematics to the solution of print and performance problems.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be expected to:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of blueprints with attention to signs, symbols, and abbreviations.

  2. Read the scale on a steel rule.

  3. Identify the various lines found on prints.

  4. Interpret the various views found on prints.

  5. Interpret various location dimensions on prints, including circles, arcs, and angles.

  6. Interpret external and internal threads.

  7. Develop an understanding of the metric system.

  8. Interpret tolerances designated on prints.

  9. Interpret surface finish symbols and specifications.

  10. Interpret geometric tolerance symbols and their usage on prints.

  11. Interpret standard machine finish symbols found on prints.
