CNA/QMA Train the Trainer

This course is designed to meet the Indiana Department of Health requirements for individuals interested in teaching the CNA or QMA course. The course includes:

• Introduction to the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) Administrative Standards for CNA and QMA training programs

• Guidelines for Adult Education

• Introduction to the CNA and QMA Competency Evaluation curriculum, procedures and forms

• Introduction to State Testing procedures

• Discuss Administrative standards as they relate to the specific program

• Explain basic adult education principles

• Describe characteristics of various types of learners

• Discuss required forms for documenting classroom and clinical hours

• List the required number of hours needed for classroom, lab, and practicum hours for each program

• Discuss requirements for the Insulin Administration Module

• Explain how to apply for program approval for both CNA and QMA programs

• Identify key components on how to apply for state testing for both written and skills testing

After registering for the course, participants will receive a link for the virtual (Zoom) program. Participants are responsible for printing or have available electronically all the handouts and curricula of the CNA and QMA Basic Curricula and Federal Laws and Regulations. The links for this information will be provided after registration is completed.

Qualifications to become a CNA Instructor:

  • Must a LPN or RN license in the state of Indiana.
  • Have a minimum of one year of licensed nursing experience

Qualifications to become a CNA Program Director:

  • Hold a RN license in good standing in the state of Indiana

  • Have a minimum of two years experience in licensed nursing, with at least one year in long-term care

Qualifications to become a QMA Instructor:

  • Hold an RN license in good standing in the state of Indiana

  • Have a minimum of two years experience in licenses nursing with at least one year in long term care
