EMI classes are only available through the Indianapolis Ivy Tech campus at this time. For more information, contact Indianapolis-EMI@ivytech.edu.
This refresher course is delivered under the supervision of the Ivy Tech Environmental Management Institute (EMI) with partial support from the National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) grant #ES06184. It meets OSHA HAZWOPER standards (29 CFR 1910.120 and 29 CFR 1926.59) for employees who may be exposed to hazardous materials or biological hazards while performing:
- Cleanups at government-recognized hazardous waste sites
- Work at RCRA-permitted hazardous waste TSDF facilities
- Emergency response to potential or actual hazardous substance releases
OSHA requires workers in the first two categories to complete an annual 8-hour refresher. While OSHA does not specify an hourly requirement for emergency responders, EMI’s refresher covers all required elements of the HAZWOPER standard to maintain responder competency.
EMI is also part of the Midwest Consortium for Hazardous Waste Worker Training, funded by NIEHS. Consortium-developed materials are widely used and considered best-in-class nationally, enabling EMI to offer high-quality HAZWOPER training at a competitive cost.
