Maintain Your Accreditation and Stay Current with OSHA & EPA Requirements

Asbestos Abatement Workers are required to complete annual refresher training to maintain their accreditation and remain compliant with federal and state regulations. While OSHA does not issue licenses, it does require ongoing asbestos training for workers, inspectors, and competent persons. This EPA-approved refresher course satisfies all OSHA training requirements and ensures you remain qualified for abatement work.

Delivered under the supervision of the Ivy Tech Environmental Management Institute (Indianapolis), this refresher provides:

  • Updates on federal, state, and local asbestos regulations
  • State-of-the-art work practices for safe asbestos removal
  • A review of essential concepts from the initial Asbestos Abatement Worker course
  • Opportunities to raise questions and learn from the experiences of other asbestos professionals

This course is designed to support safe, compliant asbestos abatement on job sites and ensure workers maintain the skills required to perform removal, cleanup, and containment activities.

Upon successful completion of this refresher course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain recent updates to federal, state, and local asbestos regulations affecting abatement activities.
  • Review and reinforce core concepts from the initial Asbestos Abatement Worker training, including safe handling, removal, and cleanup of ACM.
  • Apply current best practices in engineering controls, containment, decontamination, and waste handling for asbestos abatement projects.
  • Demonstrate proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and updated safety protocols required for worker protection.
  • Identify common job-site challenges and select appropriate work methods to maintain regulatory compliance and minimize exposure risk.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, competent persons, and other job-site personnel regarding hazards, procedures, and safety expectations.
  • Demonstrate continued competency by achieving the required passing score on the refresher examination.

To maintain accreditation, workers must complete an approved refresher in each specialty they intend to practice. Participants must also:

  • Pass the course exam with a minimum score of 70% (required in Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and several other states)
  • Meet state-specific renewal requirements and timelines

Ivy Tech’s refresher courses are accepted in Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and all states that recognize EPA-approved training.
