Ivy Tech Community College's Aviation Maintenance program would like to share an exciting opportunity with those maintenance technicians already working in the industry. Ivy Tech is offering FAA licensed Airframe and Powerplant mechanics a chance to complete an Associates of Applied Science in Aviation Maintenance Technology. With the FAA License and 16 credits of general education classes the degree can be completed providing the individual greater opportunities to advance in the modern workplace.
In order to take advantage of this opportunity the mechanic should register as a student with Ivy Tech Community College as a degree seeking student under the Aviation Maintenance program. Registration can either be done online at ivytech.edu or in person at your local campus. After registered the student will need to make an appointment with an instructor of the aviation program, during which the student will be given credits for their license to be added to their transcripts. Be sure to bring the license to the appointment. If a mechanic has only one half of the license they are still eligible for the Associates of Applied Science, however it will be only for that particular concentration.
After this point the student then takes the standard general education credits and attends those classes in either the face to face or online formats as applicable. These classes do not have to be at the Fort Wayne campus the classes can be taken at any Ivy Tech campus. When reaching the final semester the student will need to fill out the application for graduation and be ready to receive their AAS and be eligible to walk in the graduation ceremony. The completion of the AAS will enable the student to then transfer credits and move on to a four year degree if desired.
