Applying to Ivy Tech

If you’ve never applied to Ivy Tech Community College before (or if it’s been two years since you last attended classes here), your first step is to apply to Ivy Tech.

Choosing your campus, program, and starting date:

When telling us about your academic plans on the application, you will be given the opportunity to see the options you have for your preferred field of interest across multiple Ivy Tech campuses and start terms. Prior to submitting your application, you will need to narrow down your selection to one campus, term, and program.

If you'd like to apply in person, reach out to your local admissions team and arrange a meeting. Or, stop by any campus during Tuesdays@TheTech to receive personal assistance with applying and registering for classes.

What You'll Need to Apply

You'll want to have the following on hand when you fill out the Ivy Tech application:

• A government-issued ID — such as a driver's license or passport — is required to complete your application
• Email address — personal email is preferred
• Emergency contact information
• Social Security Number (SSN)
• Ivy Tech campus you’d like to attend

Also, if applicable:

• High school or equivalency: school name and graduation date
• Previous college: school name, start and end dates
• Current employer information

All students applying through our general application to take classes at Ivy Tech are required to verify their identity through IvyID. This process is easy and should only take a few minutes to complete. Once you submit the general application, you’ll receive an email with steps on how to verify your identity. You will need a government-issued form of ID, such as a driver’s license or passport, to complete this step. Your application for admission to Ivy Tech will not be reviewed until this step is complete. 

Look Out for an Email From Ivy Tech

Once your application processing is complete, you will receive a confirmation email at the email address provided on your application. Typically the email will arrive within 1-2 days of submission, but during peak processing periods (April-June) it can take up to 5-10 business days. If it has been more than 10 business days since you applied and you have not yet received your acceptance email, contact Admissions at 888-IVY-LINE (1-888-489-5463).

The email will contain instructions on how to register for classes, as well as important information regarding your Ivy Tech student portal (MyIvy account) and your Ivy Tech student information.

You May Receive a Call 

In addition, you may receive a call from an enrollment specialist who will answer any questions you may have.

What is MyIvy?

MyIvy is Ivy Tech's online student portal. Students use MyIvy to check their email, register for classes, pay tuition, manage financial aid, get the latest news and announcements, and much more. MyIvy contains "QuickLinks" to the Ivy Tech websites and online tools you will use most often, including:

• IvyLearn – Canvas website for your classes
• Schedule Builder – for class registration
• Degree Completion Tracker
• White Pages – online contact directory
• Knowledge Assessment – for course placement
• Your Academic Advisor - who to contact for help with your class schedule
• Technical Helpdesk
• HireIvy – for career development
• And so much more!

How to Create a MyIvy Account – First-Time User Instructions

1. Go to myivy.ivytech.edu 
2. Click on “First Time User?”
3. Review the Ivy Tech Community College Acceptable Use Policy and click “I Agree”
4. Enter the requested information. Your Ivy Tech email address can be found on the Student Information Card included in your acceptance email (see example at right) you received after your application was processed
5. Click “Get Started”
6. Enter your personal information (your student ID number is also called your C-number and can be found on your Student Information Card)
7. Enter your personal email address and cell phone number for your validation code and choose your preferred method to receive your code
8. Check “I’m not a robot”
9. Click “Next”
10. Enter your validation code
11. Click “Next”
12. Create your password
13. Log In

Pursuing a Degree or Certificate? Complete the New Student Checklist

You’re accepted — now what? With your MyIvy account set up, it’s time to complete the New Student Checklist and take care of everything you need to do before classes begin.

Your checklist includes:

• Apply for financial aid
• Complete course placement
• Watch FYIvy videos
• Register for classes
• Pay your tuition
• Attend New Student Orientation

Taking Classes Only? Register and Pay

If you’re taking individual courses and aren’t pursuing a degree or certificate, you don’t need to complete the New Student Checklist. Once you receive your application confirmation email and create your MyIvy account, you can:

• Register for classes: Search for upcoming classes, then register using Schedule Builder in MyIvy. If you need help, contact your local admissions representative or visit a local enrollment center.
• Pay your tuition: After you register, view your balance and make a payment in MyIvy, or pay in person at your local Bursar’s Office (also sometimes known as the Business Office).
