Ivy Tech Community College is highlighting the importance of agriculture in November.
The college is proud to serve the Wabash Valley area with the only agriculture studies of its kind. Ivy Tech’s unique agriculture and precision agriculture programs are offered at their state-of-the-art facility allowing students a hands-on learning experience.
“Our precision agriculture program prepares students with the skills they need to perform the daily operations of agriculture professionals, including best practices and diagnostic techniques,” said Michael Mauntel, assistant professor of precision agriculture technology. “Precision agriculture is the technology used by farmers to increase their overall productivity and efficiency.”
Ivy Tech recognizes that the agriculture industry is a crucial driver of Indiana’s state economy, providing jobs in rural areas and boosting the quality of life in Indiana communities. Today, the industry is responsible for an estimated $31.2 billion of Indiana’s revenue- the state’s second-largest business sector.
Ivy Tech Community College offers agriculture-related certificates and degrees in areas such as Agriculture Equipment Service Technician, Precision Agriculture Specialist, Hydroculture, Grain Systems, Landscape Technician, Urban Horticulture, and more.
A degree in agriculture can lead to careers in farming and precision agriculture with partners like John Deere, Case IH, Ceres Solutions, Co-Alliance, Becks Hybrids, Dow AgroSciences, Monsanto, Belstra Milling Company, Fair Oaks Farms, and other local growers, producers, and agribusinesses.
