BLOOMINGTON – Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington will expand workforce training opportunities in the Indiana Uplands region through a new initiative made possible by a $3 million investment from Google to the Ivy Tech Foundation.
The investment will support the launch of fiber optic and network installer training programs at three Ivy Tech campuses, including Bloomington, Fort Wayne, and Valparaiso. The program will prepare students for careers in a growing industry while meeting workforce needs throughout Indiana.
The new short-term training class offered by Ivy Tech Bloomington will provide participants with hands-on training and industry skills needed to pursue careers in fiber optic installation, network infrastructure, and related fields. The program is designed to support employers seeking skilled workers to build and maintain the communications infrastructure that keeps communities connected.
Through this partnership, we can connect area residents to no-cost training that prepares them for high-demand tech careers, while supporting employers and industries that are vital to our local economy."

Growing demand for broadband and communications infrastructure has increased the need for trained fiber optic technicians across Indiana and the nation. The training program will help students gain the technical skills and hands-on experience needed to enter the workforce quickly and successfully.
"Expanding high-speed broadband requires more than just investment in technology—it requires a skilled, local workforce ready to do the work,” said Kelly Rentschler, Community Relations Manager for Google. “Through our partnership with the Ivy Tech Foundation, we’re proud to help launch training programs that lead directly to well-paying, resilient careers right here in Indiana."
"Google's investment is a powerful example of how philanthropy can create lasting impact in local communities," said Stephannie Bailey, Ivy Tech Foundation President. "By supporting workforce training at Ivy Tech Bloomington, this partnership is helping residents throughout the Uplands region gain valuable skills, pursue new opportunities, and contribute to Indiana's economic growth."
In addition to launching the training program, Ivy Tech Bloomington will work with local employers and community partners to build awareness of career opportunities in the field and connect students with workforce pathways.
