Ivy Tech Bloomington and Community Engaged Alliance partner to host civics speaker, David Roof

Bloomington— Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington is partnering with Community Engaged Alliance to bring David Roof, director of the Center for Economic and Civic Learning at Ball State University, to Bloomington to present “Indiana and Civics Education: Lessons Learned and Reflections on the Future.” The talk is April 11 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Ted Jones Playhouse.

Roof will give insights into community partnerships and the development of critical thinking skills that are essential for active civic participation. It is part of Community-Engaged Alliances (CEA) Spreading the Word Speaker Series—an initiative that brings together diverse voices to inspire, educate, and ignite conversations within the community.

The discussion will explore ways educators can contribute to the advancement of democracy through intentional and community-oriented teaching and learning practices. At the session, participants will play an active role in shaping the democratic narrative in Indiana, fostering a society where informed, engaged, and empowered citizens thrive.
