BLOOMINGTON – Ivy Tech Community College’s radiation therapy degree program has been re-accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) for a maximum of eight years.
Karlee Wyatt, program director of radiation therapy at Ivy Tech Bloomington, says that earning the maximum award of eight years by JRCERT is validation of the smart work and dedication that faculty has put into building a high-quality and well-respected program among radiation therapy professionals.
“As academic program faculty, we do our best to ensure graduates are provided the resources to become caring, competent cancer-care professionals,” she said. “With help from our clinical affiliates, graduates of our program are experienced and ready for work on day one of their new careers. Additionally, maintaining program accreditation further demonstrates to radiation therapy employers the value of a radiation therapist educated at Ivy Tech Bloomington.”
The program at Ivy Tech utilizes VERT, a state of the art virtual reality radiation therapy education tool. It simulates a radiotherapy treatment room. There are only 29 VERT installations across the United States, including Ivy Tech and the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences.
Ivy Tech’s radiation therapy degree program is the only accredited associate degree program offered in the state of Indiana, and holds a job placement rate of 100 percent according to JRCERT standards. For more information about radiation therapy at Ivy Tech, log on ivytech.edu/radiation-therapy/.
JRCERT (jrcert.org), located in Chicago, IL, is the only agency recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) for the accreditation of traditional and distance delivery educational programs in radiography, radiation therapy, magnetic resonance, and medical dosimetry. Specialized accreditation awarded by JRCERT offers institutions significant value by providing peer evaluation and by assuring the public of quality professional education in radiologic sciences.
