BLOOMINGTON – Ivy Tech Bloomington students and faculty hosted the fifth annual Writing Across Communities event which brought together authors for a reading of original fiction and poetry. The annual event is held to connect writers across academic boundaries of the community college, university, and the community.
“This is a series that is intended to foster a sense of community that crosses boundaries between master and apprentice, the two- and four- year college, and the academy and the city,” said Dr. Samantha Levy-Arnold, associate professor of English.
Ivy Tech students Kelly Sturgeon and Ian Collier read original works. Sturgeon’s work, Just a Little Show Ring. Ivy Tech student Ian Collier read his short story, Me and My Wolf.
Adrian Matejka, Indiana’s Poet Laureate, read three new poems from his new book, Hearing Damage, during the event.
Dr. Emily Bobo, professor of English, read excerpts of her recent works inspired by Grimm’s Fairy Tales, rewritten to replace characters with current people, to reflect current times.
