BLOOMINGTON – Officials at Ivy Tech Community College’s Bloomington campus have appointed James O. Smith, Ph.D., as Division Dean for the Schools of Business, Education, Public and Social Services, and Computing and Informatics. Smith has served at Ivy Tech Bloomington for more than 15 years, and most recently served in a dual role as accounting program chair and interim dean since Fall Semester 2015.
“I’m pleased that Jim has accepted the integral role of Dean for this expansive School,” said Chancellor Jennie Vaughan. “He has vast experience developing and implementing articulations and transfer agreements with senior institutions, improving campus infrastructure and instruction, and has employed technologies to improve processes and the quality of customer service for the benefit of Ivy Tech students.”
Smith has been involved with the Higher Learning Commission since 2007, and is currently a member of the Peer Review Corps of approximately 1,300 faculty and administrators from institutions within its 19 state central region. He has performed Standard Pathways and Academic Quality Improvement Program reviews. Additionally, he assists with special reviews including new accreditations and focused visits, as well as with Federal Compliance reviews.
He also serves as faculty advisor of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program at Ivy Tech.
