INDIANAPOLIS – A $3 million investment from Google will help expand fiber optic and network installer training opportunities across Indiana, creating new pathways to high-demand careers while helping meet the state's growing need for skilled broadband infrastructure professionals.
The investment will support the launch of training programs at Ivy Tech Community College locations in Bloomington, Fort Wayne, and Valparaiso, including the equipment, resources, and program support needed to prepare participants for roles that are critical to building and maintaining modern communications infrastructure.
"This extraordinary investment from Google demonstrates the power of philanthropy to transform lives and strengthen communities," said Stephannie Bailey, Ivy Tech Foundation President. "By investing in workforce training, Google is helping Hoosiers gain in-demand skills, connect with quality career opportunities, and meet critical workforce needs across Indiana. This partnership will have a lasting impact on individuals, employers, and communities throughout the state."
As demand for high-speed connectivity continues to grow, employers across the country are seeking skilled workers to build, maintain, and expand fiber optic networks. The programs supported through Google's investment will equip participants with hands-on technical training and industry-relevant skills that lead directly to career opportunities in Indiana.
"Expanding high-speed broadband requires more than just investment in technology—it requires a skilled, local workforce ready to do the work,” said Kelly Rentschler, Community Relations Manager for Google. “Through our partnership with the Ivy Tech Foundation, we’re proud to help launch training programs that lead directly to well-paying, resilient careers right here in Indiana.”
The investment reflects a shared commitment to expanding access to education and workforce training while supporting Indiana's growing technology and communications infrastructure needs. Through the partnership, participants will have access to training designed in alignment with employer demand and focused on workforce readiness.
"Indiana employers continue to need skilled professionals who can build and maintain the infrastructure that powers connectivity across our communities," said Molly Dodge, Senior Vice President of Workforce and Careers for Ivy Tech Community College. "Google's investment allows Ivy Tech to expand access to industry-relevant, no-cost skills training that prepares participants for immediate employment opportunities while helping address critical workforce needs throughout the state."
