Terre Haute, Ind. | More than 40 local high school students competed in Ivy Tech’s annual welding contest on April 10. The welding contest tests high school students on their skills as welders.
Intermediate and advanced students from each school were selected to compete head-to-head in a series of skills tests – including SMAW, GMAW (Intermediate) and GTAW (Advanced). The competition assessed skills aligned with the American Welding Society (AWS) Certification, now available at Ivy Tech Terre Haute.

“Events like this not only showcase the incredible talent of our local students, but they also open doors,” said Molly Joseph, dean of the School of Advanced Manufacturing, Engineering, and Applied Science at Ivy Tech Terre Haute. “By offering scholarships, we’re investing in the next generation of skilled professionals and helping them take the first step toward a successful and rewarding career in manufacturing.”
