TERRE HAUTE, IN – The Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) and Ivy Tech Community College proudly celebrate the success of 8 students who completed Ivy Tech’s welding program, as part of a collaborative re-entry initiative. The partnership provides incarcerated individuals with in-demand skills to support their successful transition back into the workforce and community.
The program offers hands-on training in welding technology, preparing participants for careers in a high-demand industry. During the program, students were connected with a dedicated HIRE coordinator who provided individualized support to help them pursue employment opportunities either before their release or shortly after, facilitating a smoother re-entry process.
“The determination and grit these students have shown throughout the welding program is truly inspiring. Achieving a 100% pass rate on their welding exams is a huge milestone that speaks to their commitment and hard work,” said David Will, Executive Director of Ivy+ Career Link. “This accomplishment not only opens doors for lucrative employment opportunities but also marks a significant step toward rebuilding their lives and futures.”
All eight students successfully completed the Flux Core ARC Welding Position Flat 1G exam, commonly known as GMAW or MIG welding. Certified through the American Welding Society and administered by a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), the exam ensures students meet industry standards for entry-level welding positions.
