For the second year in a row, Ivy Tech Indianapolis welcomed the Mozel Sanders Foundation in its mission to prepare thousands of free Thanksgiving meals for central Indiana residents in need.
Mozel Sanders has provided a warm meal to those who otherwise would not have one on Thanksgiving for over 50 years. Serving more than 10,000 meals, the non-profit has organized the largest one-day feeding initiative in Indianapolis.
Ivy Tech Indy’s Conference Center and Culinary Institute (CCCI) was one of four preparation sites, with its state-of-the-art commercial kitchen producing the largest contribution of the 10,000 meals.
“We’re blessed to feed people on Thanksgiving Day,” Stephanie Sanders, the Chief Operating Officer and Chair of Mozel Sanders, told WISH-TV.
In the same segment, one volunteer shares that he has volunteered for 30 years, while another explains why he decided to volunteer for the first time this year.
“I didn’t have this coming up. Being able to provide this for families and other people just to be able to eat is a big impact for me, and I love it,” Nicky Neptune said.
Chef Jenni Schouppe, program chair for the Ivy Tech Indianapolis School of Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management, and Chef Ricky Hatfield, an adjunct faculty member, were on-site at CCCI to help on Thanksgiving Day. Chef Hatfield has assisted Mozel Sanders for years.
John Perez, program chair of visual communications at Ivy Tech Indianapolis, was also on-site on Thanksgiving Day, capturing the moment. See the full gallery below.
Since its founding, the Mozel Sanders Foundation has delivered over a million Thanksgiving meals, mobilizing tens of thousands of volunteers and donors to ensure no one in Indianapolis goes hungry on the holiday.
