The 2025 "Bear Gifts" program at Ivy Tech Indianapolis delivered holiday joy to a record number of student families this season, more than doubling its goal thanks to an outpouring of support from the college community.
The annual initiative makes wishes come true for Ivy Tech students' children by fulfilling their gift requests. This year, the program supported 106 student families, far surpassing the original goal of 50 and exceeding last year’s total of 39. The program’s unique focus on children ages 0 to 17 addresses a critical gap, as many parents report difficulty finding holiday support for older children.
The program relies on sponsors from the campus community—faculty, staff, students, and departments—who are matched with applicant families. This year, 79 sponsors answered the call to fulfill wish lists featuring items like skates, tablets, dollhouses, books, and video games. Demand from student families was exceptionally high, forcing the application window to close after approximately two days due to overwhelming interest.
"This record-breaking year shows the incredible compassion of our Ivy Tech family," said Indianapolis IvyCares Director Mary Louise Edwards. "By more than doubling our goal, our sponsors have eased financial pressures and spread genuine holiday magic for a historic number of our student parents and their children."
Gifts were distributed to families the week of December 15.
The annual Bear Gifts program is administered by IvyCares, which supports student success by addressing essential needs.
