As the Meijer Simply Give Campaign comes to an end, the Ivy Tech Indianapolis IvyCares team continues to combat food insecurity on our campus and ensure students have the resources they need to focus on their education without the distraction of hunger and other basic needs, such as clothing and personal essentials.
Our campus community generously supports students and their families every year through clothing, water bottle and gift drives. To sustain this vital work year-round, IvyCares now seeks broader community support. Your help ensures we can continuously provide food, clothing, and other essential resources, empowering students to focus on their education.
Food insecurity is defined as not having enough to eat or not knowing where your next meal is coming from. At Ivy Tech Indy, our IvyCares program is a vital lifeline for these students, providing them with a secure, no-cost way to access a supplemental food pantry with basic sanitary items, a clothing closet, and resources for mental health, transportation, housing, and technology support.
Our flagship resource, Gleaners Food Bank, is anticipating a surge in food-insecure Hoosiers after already seeing a sharp rise in need. They are now working with their network of over 300 pantry partners to strategize and strengthen the community's response.
Just as well, as the campus fields inquiries of support, here is how you can help at this time:
-
Amazon Wishlist
On the IvyCares Amazon Wishlist, you can help supply the campus pantry with some of its much-needed items at this time, including, laundry sheets, pads, deodorant and more. Your order will be directly shipped to the campus.
-
Make a monetary donation
Through the Ivy Tech Foundation, you can make a monetary donation to the Ivy Tech Indianapolis IvyCares team which will go directly to supporting our students in need. All you have to do is choose “Indianapolis” when prompted with a designation to choose, at which point you can click on “IvyCares” as the program you wish to support.
-
Bring goods to IvyCares
IvyCares is accepting shelf-stable items, including dry and canned food donations. Its clothing closet is hosting a winter clothing drive this week, and is seeing a need for sweatshirts and hoodies at this time.
You can bring all goods you would like to donate to IvyCares, which is currently located in the North Meridian Center (50 W. Fall Creek Pkwy. N. Dr.) in room 414. Its hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. If they are closed, you can place items in the brown box situated outside the office door.
Beyond the food and clothing pantries, Ivy Tech Indianapolis provides a holistic approach to student wellness. The IvyCares team serves as a vital resource hub, connecting students to various campus and Indianapolis services. On campus, students can also connect with one of our mental health counselors by emailing indianapolis-counseling@ivytech.edu.
If you have any questions, please reach out to IvyCares at Indianapolis-IvyCares@ivytech.edu or stop by North Meridian Center, room 414.
Your support does more than fill a pantry; it fuels a future. Together, we can ensure that a student's potential is never limited by their circumstances.
