Ivy Tech’s Foundation received a 3-year, $21.9 million grant from the Lilly Endowment to help strengthen Indiana’s Early Childhood educational workforce. The grant enables Ivy Tech to deliver relevant and responsive postsecondary education and training to improve the quality of the state’s early childhood education sector, support efforts to retain existing professionals and attract more educators to the field.
Building Blocks, the childcare resource center serving 28 counties in southern Indiana, will also be on hand. This organization works closely with the State of Indiana prioritizing the expansion of programs that enhance the affordability and availability of quality childcare.
Andrea Boberg, program chair for Early Childhood Education at Ivy Tech Evansville, said, “We know the need is great in our communities for skilled, licensed childcare providers and Ivy Tech has many different opportunities to receive these skills. From apprenticeships to non-credit skills training, to dual enrollment and dual credit for high school students in the 2026-27 school year -- we are working together with community partners to provide opportunities for individuals to increase their professional skills and knowledge along with wages and overall program quality.”
Last summer, Ivy Tech Evansville was the first to offer a Department of Labor registered apprenticeship in Indiana with employer partner Carver Community Organization in Evansville.
