Ivy Tech Community College’s Evansville region unveiled its new mascot, Rex, to those in attendance at the special pep rally on campus, April 7, 2026.

Rex is a monarch lion – leader of his Ivy Tech Pride. Voted upon by the student body, faculty and staff in spring 2024, he was selected from several options to be the mascot for this Ivy Tech region. Rex is also a way that Ivy Tech is paying tribute to the history of the main campus, which was formerly Rex Mundi High School from 1958-1972. Rex Mundi’s mascot was the monarch. A large group of Rex Mundi alumni were at the event welcoming the new mascot. Dona Hall, a Rex Mundi grad, bestowed Rex’s crown upon his head during the ceremony.

Ivy Tech student Gracie Defur was the inspiration behind the new mascot. Defur was a visual communications major and her sketches assisted the team in developing the digital image that was eventually developed of Rex.
