Ivy Tech Community College Evansville announced a new program March 2 and new partnership that will benefit the healthcare needs of Southwestern Indiana.

“We are so pleased to announce that not only will we have a brand new Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) Program offered in Ivy Tech Evansville’s Frank L. Hilton M.D. School of Health Sciences beginning this summer; but also a new partnership with Deaconess Health System providing space on the Midtown Deaconess campus for classes and clinical work-based learning opportunities for students,” said Ivy Tech Chancellor Daniela Vidal.

The CCMA program will first be offered during Ivy Tech’s 2026 Summer Session. The 10-week program will take place from May 26-July 31, meeting on Mondays and Tuesdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Registration for Summer and Fall classes opens today (March 2) at Ivy Tech Evansville.

“At Ivy Tech Evansville, our responsibility is to respond directly to the workforce needs of our region,” said Daniela Vidal, chancellor of Ivy Tech Evansville. “By launching the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant program and partnering with Deaconess Health System, we are creating a local pathway for students to enter high-demand healthcare careers. This collaboration strengthens our community’s healthcare workforce while giving students hands-on experience, industry-recognized credentials, and a direct connection to employment opportunities right here in Southwestern Indiana.”

Dr. Brad Scheu, Deaconess Indiana Region President, said, “We are pleased to expand our partnership with Ivy Tech through this program. Deaconess remains committed to providing high-quality care close to home, and we are equally proud to support the education and training of the next generation of caregivers in our community.”

Students completing the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant program this summer will earn the academic credential of a certificate. CCMAs roles are crucial. They are multi-skilled healthcare professionals who support physicians in hospitals, clinics, and offices by performing both clinical duties like taking vitals, drawing blood, administering injections, EKGs, as well as administrative tasks. Certification is typically obtained through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) after completing training and passing an exam. The program offers a high-value academic credential in great need in the area, said Jamale Thacker, dean of the Frank L. Hilton M.D. School of Health Sciences at Ivy Tech Evansville. “Meeting community needs through partnerships is not only important but impactful,” Thacker added regarding the partnership with Deaconess.

The program could be free for qualified individuals through the Next Level Jobs Workforce Ready Grant program in Indiana.

Ivy Tech Evansville began partnering with Deaconess Health Systems during the fall semester, offering the Technical Certificate program in Phlebotomy at the Midtown location.

“These are exciting programs to have on our Midtown campus,” said Dawn Rowley, Deaconess Vice President of Nursing and Patient Care Services. “We look forward to helping shape the future generation of caregivers.”
