Bloomington— Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington’s director of advising, Eliza Erxleben, was selected for an Outstanding Advising Administrator Award Certificate of Merit from NACADA: The Global Community for Academic Advising. Erxleben will be presented with the award this fall in St. Louis, Mo. at the NACADA national conference.

“As an academic advisor, it is my mission to help students navigate the complex and sometimes arduous landscape of higher education,” said Erxleben. “While students are ultimately responsible for their goals, growth and experiences, advisors are in a position to support them throughout their journeys.”

The Outstanding Advising Administrator Award is presented to individuals who have demonstrated qualities associated with outstanding academic advising administration.

“Advisors in our department feel they get many opportunities for growth, and it’s due to Eliza’s passion to raise others up,” said Melissa Stone, academic advisor at Ivy Tech Bloomington. “She is very student-centered. It is important to her that advisors not only work with students to get them in classes and stay on track, but also that we involve the student in every step of the process.”

It’s through student stories that Erxleben finds her motivation and passion. “Students teach us as much, if not more, than we teach them,” she says.
