Students will get the chance to show off their IT skills and meet with local tech employers in the IT Challenge, presented by Google next month.

Through a partnership with Google, Ivy Tech Community College’s School of Information Technology has developed a statewide IT Challenge competition.

Ivy Tech students will demonstrate their IT knowledge by competing in real-world challenges, showing what they have been learning in their classes, and have a chance to earn scholarships.

In addition, they also have the opportunity to connect with potential employers. More than 20 industry partners will attend the event as part of a career fair and networking opportunities.

Over 100 students are expected to participate in the challenge.

“This event gives us the chance to promote our programs and students by giving them an opportunity to show off their skills, to provide our students with employment and work-based learning opportunities, and to provide industry partners with an opportunity to connect with our exceptional IT students,” said Michael Bottorff, Vice President, School of Information Technology.

The event will be held on Friday, Nov. 7 at the Indianapolis Marriott East, 7702 East 21st Street, Indianapolis, IN 46219.

Opening remarks begin at 8:30 a.m. with Ivy Tech President Dr. Marty Pollio and Utaukwa Allen, Global Lead, Google Data Center Economic & Community Development.

Four IT discipline challenges will be held in the morning, followed by one interdisciplinary team championship competition in the afternoon. Winners will be announced and awarded at 4:30.
